Karin has over 25 years of experience in  the insurance, health care, risk financing, retirement and benefits industries. She is an internationally recognized leader in captive insurance strategy, benefits and financing. She is Past-Chairman of the Board of The Captive Insurance Company Association and a member of the ERISA Industry Committee and was recently appointed to the Board of Directors for Fallon Community Health Plan. She is also a Professor of Employee Benefits and member of the finance committee for the International Center of Captive Insurance Education part of the University of Vermont. Karin’s expertise around benefits allowed her to co-author a white paper for Business Insurance Magazine titled “Captives for Benefits: How to Use a Captive to Save Money and Enhance Benefits Coverage”, which is currently a top seller. Both Vermont and the US Virgin Islands asked Karin for input and guidance with their recent legislative changes. Prior to joining Spring, Karin was President of Watson Wyatt Insurance & Financial Services in the United States and Head of the Health & Welfare division for the eastern region.

John smJohn Cassell is the Senior Partner at Spring Consulting Group. He is responsible for the strategic focus of the firm and for corporate development. John has over 25 years experience in the health care and financial services sector. John is a regular speaker at industry conferences and has contributed articles and papers to a number of publications and journals. He is an associate of the Royal Society of Medicine. Previously, John was a partner in Watson Wyatt from 1997-2003. During this time, he set up and ran the employer health care consulting practice in the UK and headed health care industry consulting globally. Most recently he was Executive Vice President of Watson Wyatt’s US Insurance and Financial services consulting practice.

Karen smKaren Trumbull English, ACI, AU, ARM, CPCU is a Partner and Senior Consultant with Spring Consulting Group. She has over 20 years of experience in the P&C and health & welfare arenas with an emphasis on product development, risk financing, process improvement and project implementation. Karen provides strategic direction, quantitative & qualitative analysis and implementation expertise for workers’ compensation, disability, absence, health and productivity programs that allows her to routinely work with alternative risk financing vehicles such as captives. Karen is committed to researching how disability, absence and health management programs can be integrated and uses that research to develop employee focused solutions that provide a cost savings for the employer. Karen is on the Executive Advisory Board for the Disability Management Employer Coalition (DMEC), where she recently served as lead editor for the DMEC’s Tools of the Trade – Guide to Integrated Programs and DMEC’s Return to Work Program Manual. Teri smTeri Weber, ACI is a Partner with Spring Consulting Group. She has over 10 years of experience in health and welfare plan strategy, design, pricing, and implementation. She also works with absence management programs, including disability, family medical leave and leave of absence tracking. Her areas of expertise have allowed her to work with diverse employers and vendors to streamline processes and programs to meet the needs of insurers, administrators, employers and employees. Teri is on the Board for the New England Employee Benefits Council (NEEBC) and recently served as lead editor for the Disability Management Employer Coalition’s (DMEC) Return to Work Program Manual. Prior to joining Spring, Teri worked with Watson Wyatt, Buck Consultants and AON Consulting. In addition she was an Account Manager with Health Direct, Inc. Teri earned a BS at the University of Connecticut and a MBA at the University of Massachusetts. She holds an ACI designation and is a licensed broker in the states of MA and CT.

Steven smSteven Keshner, FSA, MAAA is a Partner and Chief Actuary for Spring Consulting Group. Steven has over 25 years of actuarial, financial, underwriting and strategic insurance experience with a group, life, health and retirement focus. Steven’s experience allows him to be qualified as an Appointed Actuary enabling him to sign off on employer, insurer and captive insurer reserves as well as actuarial feasibility studies and other actuarial certifications. Steven has worked with clients to develop DOL and product initiatives focused on improving rate competitiveness through medical plan designs, product language, consumer driven health plans, and value added benefits such as low cost, minimally underwritten LTD plans. Steven’s ability to gain cost efficiencies led him to design a new underwriting and pricing model for life and disability captive programs. Prior to joining Spring, Steven was CFO and Chief Actuary of Nippon Life Benefits, a subsidiary of Nippon Life Insurance Company, a global mutual life insurer.

George W. Gonser Jr.George W. Gonser Jr., MBA, CDHC is CEO of Spring Insurance Group. George has over 20 years of experience in the employee benefit, information technology, consulting and insurance industry. Prior to joining Spring, George was the CEO of MDS Insurance Services Inc. and Vice President at the Chickering Group. George sits on various consulting, business and insurance advisory committees, boards and councils and is a frequent writer and speaker on insurance, health care and health care reform related topics nationwide. In late 2011, George was appointed to the Massachusetts Health Insurance Connector Authority board by Governor Deval Patrick to help Massachusetts insurance professionals, individuals and businesses navigate the myriad of challenges regarding health care reform on a state and national level.
